A video featuring an anti-Indian troll was shared on social media in a false claim, claiming to be an Indian who is the founder and chief executive officer of Himalaya Drug Company

On the messaging app WhatsApp there was a message circulated that stated that Muhammad Manal, the owner of Himalaya Drug Company, posted an anti-Indian post on his Facebook page. The video shows the man telling Muslim young people to view India as a positive place.False information that the video comes from the founder of Himalaya Drug Company

The Himalayan Drug Company

It was in 1930 that Muhammed Manal started his company, the Himalayan Drug Company. The headquarters of the company are in Bengaluru (Karnataka). It produces mainly health care products and has a variety of products that are based on Ayurvedic herbs. The company's productsare popular not only in India however, but also in the United States, Middle East, and elsewhere in the world. The company is currently selling its products across more than 100 countries. Liv 52 is the most known Himalayan product. It helped improve liver health and was first introduced in 1955.

Social media messages

If the video is authentic, Muhammad Manal is the founderand the CEO of Himalayan Drug Company. Because the company was established in the year 1930 so it is logical for those who are younger than the person in this video to be at least 100 years older. In reality, Mr. Manal died in 1986 , which means that the person in the video could not be him.

Reply to Himalaya Drug Company

Himalaya posted a message to its social media accounts on the 14th of October stating that fake posts as well as WhatsAppforwards are being made about Himalaya. It stated that the companyis professional run and is reputable. The company informed anyone who posted or forward the fake blog post should remove the fake post immediately or take legal action.

It's not the first time the Himalaya Drug Co is dealing with this issue. Similar messages circulated through WhatsApp as well as social media in March of 2020. Many posts suggesting it was the case that Himalaya Drug Company funds terrorists were flooding social media with the photo of Philipe Haydon (President and CEO of Himalaya Drug Company). The post stated that M. Manal, the founder of Himalaya Drug Company was shown in the image.

The company also issued a clarification message at that time, saying that the majority of posts about Himalaya on social media platforms are fake. The company further stated that Himalaya Drug Company was a pre-independence wellness brand "Made In India", that adheres to the belief of "healing".

Hunting for the personin video

A little bit of research on the company's site revealed it was M. Manal is not the person that is featured in the clip. In reality, the founder died in the year 1986, a little over three decades ago. We set out to determine who was the person is who appears in the video. We were able to locate several social media accounts which were operated by Naqi Ahmed Nadwi who is the Saudi Arabian citizen, after a little bit of research using Google's reverse image search. Although there was a direct link to his Facebook page there was no information about Naqi Ahmed Nadwi. The default parking page was all it had. It was first registered in May of this year.
